It’s My Birthday!

Posted by Bonnie Limbird

2019 has been unlike any year of mine to date. Running for elected office for the first time is crazy. My go-to word/phrase for how it makes me feel is: nervous-excited. That seems to be pretty universal for all of my new first-time-candidate friends running in this cycle.

But here’s a quote I’m feeling these days:

Understand that one day you will have the power to make a difference. Use it well.” ~Mindy Kaling

Through a variety of board positions over the last 15-20 years, I have worked very intentionally to bring people together from various groups and diverse backgrounds for idea sharing, consensus building, and improvements to the organizations we served together. As a leader in these organizations, I’ve focused on inclusivity and transparency, and encouraged all members to bring their experience and expertise to the table to look for efficiencies and increased community engagement. While not a change for change’s sake leader, I do not subscribe to the “this is how we’ve always done it” mentality, and I know there’s always room for improvement. I am organized, thoughtful, and an excellent communicator. I believe proper communication sets expectations and increases happiness with end results.

It’s taken most of my 43 years to develop and recognize these objectively positive qualities that I bring to the table and, as importantly, to own them. I have the power to make a difference, and I’m going to use it well as your next Prairie Village Councilperson.

In honor of my 43rd birthday, and to help me make a difference in our community, please consider donating $43 to my campaign. I look forward to making you proud.

Take care and reach out if you have any questions or concerns,
