From Public Works Senior Project Manager, Melissa Prenger:
As you may know, there is a major Evergy project occurring on Mission Road. This project adds to the capacity of the existing duct bank from the distribution station on 90th Terrace to 79th Street.
Evergy has made multiple repairs to their facilities at 79th Street; unfortunately, these facilities are of the type and age that they are now difficult to repair.
Last week Friday, the installation on Mission Road was progressing as planned when the contractor encountered bedding from a nearby utility. Encountering this bedding caused an undermining of the roadway and an emergency shut down of Mission Road for public safety. The timing of the event was late in the afternoon and the contractor was fortunate enough to be able to get a repair made that evening.
In light of the required proximity to the bedding material and the depth of the construction for the installation of their new vaults (12x12x14), staff from both Leawood and Prairie Village feel it is in the best interest of the traveling public to close the roadway in the vicinity of the construction. This will be a rolling closure to allow construction of the infrastructure a few blocks at a time for approximately 3 weeks at each location.
These Mission Road closures are anticipated to be in place through the end of this year.
Staff is requiring the contractor to make contact with emergency services, schools in the area, impacted residents and the services impacting them (trash, school buses). The first section will be on Mission Road from 89th to 90th and will begin on Monday.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to PV Public Works if you have any questions. 🙂
