The Johnson County District Attorney’s Office is warning residents to be vigilant against possible home repair scams in the wake of Friday’s damaging thunderstorms.

In a bulletin Monday, DA Steve Howe said residents can take several steps to guard against scams.

Howe said Johnson Countians looking to get repairs done should:

  • contact their insurance and any contractors directly,
  • insist that contractors give them written terms for any repairs, including reasonable payment options,
  • verify contractors’ local phone numbers and addresses,
  • ask contractors to show any licenses needed to do home repairs and also explain any permits they may need to get to do work on your home.

Howe also warned residents against giving out their personal information to contractors going door to door or reaching out with unsolicited phone calls.
